In 1926, Miami was undergoing a speculative building bubble. The great weather, amazing beaches, plentiful local crops, and lure of easy money drove thousands to buy and build quickly in Miami. This was in the middle of the roaring 20s. The economy was booming and Miami was a place to make your bet.
Of course, back in 1926 we didn’t have satellite storm tracking. And seeing as the city was only a few decades old, there was really no history of truly strong hurricanes. Sure a few weaker storms had come through before, but nothing quite like they would experience with the Great Miami Hurricane of 1926.
